If you prefer a more natural look, we also build retaining walls using stacked stone (fieldstone or colonial thinstone), veneer stone, brick or timbers. Retaining walls are typically designed to retain soil in a sloped area. Often they double as decorative, built-in planters or a perimeter for a landscape bed or patio. Our team has years of experience bringing new life to boring or underutilized yards, and retaining walls add structure and dimension to these projects.

Most of our retaining walls are combined with other hardscape, landscape or drainage elements as part of a larger project. Hardscape projects often connect retaining walls with patios, walkways, steps, seating, built-in planters and fire pits. Since most retaining walls are built in sloped areas with drainage issues, they may incorporate grading, downspout extensions, French drains and sodding. While installing your retaining wall, they may suggest improvements based on their expertise with difficult cuts, angles and transitions. To ensure your project goes as planned, your Account Manager communicates daily with the masonry crew and visits the project site frequently.

If your retaining wall is made from wall block, you may notice a powdery, white deposit build on the surface soon after installation. This is called efflorescence—it is completely natural, and will wash away and disappear within a few months. Efflorescence is a buildup of lime or water soluble calcium oxide that rises to the surface of all concrete products and is visible only when dry. It does not affect the performance or durability of your pavers.
